Austin Fencers Club offers classes for beginning and experienced fencers. Youth classes for beginners are open to fencers age 8 through 15. Experienced fencers of any age can join our nightly classes and open fencing sessions.
COVID UPDATE, January 5, 2021: Due to the worsening COVID situation in Austin, AFC is postponing our free trial and new-beginner sessions until March. Please check back with us in middle to late February for details on how to sign up for a beginner class or trial.
If you are new to fencing, we recommend taking a free trial class with AFC before joining. We offer free trial classes on a regularly-scheduled basis; you can see the schedule and sign up here. If you miss one of our scheduled trial sessions, contact AFC directly to find out about class availability and how to schedule a free trial.
Tuition and Fees
AFC provides all new fencers with their own fencing jacket and glove, as part of your registration. Due to COVID-19 concerns, AFC is no longer lending club masks to fencers. New fencers must purchase a mask within 2 weeks of joining AFC. Fencers can buy a sanitized, used mask from AFC for $25; brand new masks can be purchased by you directly online, or can be purchased through AFC for $65. All other equipment is provided on a loaner basis to new fencers.
USA Fencing Membership Requirement
For insurance purposes, the United States Fencing Association requires anyone fencing in a USFA-accredited fencing club to be a USFA member. Register online through the USFA website here. Please bring proof of USFA membership to your first day of class. When you join the USFA, your club is Austin Fencers Club and your division is South Texas. USFA membership is for the fencer, i.e. your child, and must be made in the child's name, not the parent's.
