Assistant Coach Kate Thomas
Kate Thomas began coaching fencing in 2002 at the internationally successful Fencing Academy of Philadelphia, where she coached students of all experience levels, from beginner classes to the elite program, and ages, from eight to eighty. She was also head coach of the fencing club at the Bryn Mawr College. Coach Kate has extensive experience with every facet of fencing, which she uses to inform her coaching. She began competing at national tournaments in 2000 and has been a national finalist. She is also a nationally active referee. She is certified as a Level 2 epee coach by the United States Fencing Association’s Coaches College and as a Moniteur in foil and epee by the United States Fencing Coaches Association. She has participated in workshops conducted by top American and international coaches and constantly seeks out ways to further her fencing and general coaching education. She also holds a BA from Smith College and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Coach Kate is also an assistant coach for the University of Texas Fencing Club.
