Fencing is a great way for kids of all ages and sizes to build fitness, agility, strength, endurance, and flexibility. In addition to fitness benefits, fencing promotes intellectual development, decision-making skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Camps are open to students age 8 to 14, and all equipment is provided. Summer camps include:
  • training exercises to develop fitness & flexibility
  • footwork, bladework, and bouting in a setting that emphasizes fun & fitness
  • fencing rules, protocol, and good sportsmanship

COVID safety and protocols
  • Camps are limited to 12 fencers each, to ensure safe distancing.
  • Fencers must complete AFC's online COVID questionnaire between 24 and 48 hours of the start of their camp.
  • AFC staff will check the temperature of fencers as they arrive each day. Any fencer with a temperature exceeding the CDC-recommended 100.3 threshold will not be allowed to participate.
  • Gym floor and equipment is sanitized by AFC staff each day, at the beginning and end of each session.
  • Fencers are assigned their own loaner gear for the week, to avoid sharing any apparel or equipment. Fencers will have a labeled storage area for their own gear, to make sure they don't use equipment that has been worn or used by another fencer.
  • All fencers must wear a cloth or surgical mask at all times while in the gym. Coaches will begin each session with simple breathing exercises to help ensure that fencers are comfortable with exertion while wearing a mask. Fencers may take brief breaks in designated areas to lift their mask and catch their breath as needed. Anyone who can not take part in vigorous physical activity while wearing a mask should not enroll for this camp.
  • Fencers should bring a full water bottle each day. Label your water bottle clearly to make sure no one else picks it up accidentally.
  • AFC will have sanitizer available at the club but fencers are encouraged to bring their own personal hand sanitizer.

Enrollment information:
  • Deadline for enrollment is 3 weeks prior to the start of your camp.
  • Maximum fencers per camp: 12
  • If fewer than 6 participants are registered for a camp three weeks prior to the first day of camp, a session may be canceled, and registration fees will be fully refunded.
  • When your enrollment is complete, AFC will contact you with further information about what to bring to camp, what to wear, and waiver/insurance requirements.
